Andrew is a Core Contributor to The NewStandard. He is currently a freelance journalist travelling overseas. From 2001-2004 Andrew was a news reporter at WMNF community radio in Tampa, Florida. He was as an independent producer working out of KBOO community radio in Portland, Oregon for three years before coming to Tampa, and worked as KBOOâ€™s youth advocate, supervising the stationsâ€™ youth collective. His radio work has been featured nationally on programs including Free Speech Radio News, Making Contact, Independent Native News, Latino USA, and the Workers Independent News Service. He also has written for In These Times, Clamor, and The Weekly Planet. Andrew received excellence in journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2001 and 2004, and a scholarship to the Narco News School of Authentic Journalism in 2003--in the schoolsâ€™ 2004 session in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he was a professor in the radio program.
Born and bred in NYC, Prior to becoming a full-time journalist, Andrew managed a homeless shelter, worked on Portlandâ€™s Police Accountability Campaign, worked with kids a lot, and received a fellowship from the Mickey Leland Hunger fellows program, working at both the Food Bank of North Carolina and the U.S.D.A.
