Govâ€TMt rejects request for pre-approved Islamic charity list

Oct. 20, 2004 – The federal government dismissed a plea by Muslim groups Monday that asked for the creation of a list of Islamic charities they could donate to without being suspected of funding terrorism. This concern has grown since the recent raids on Islamic charities that the federal government has suspected of funding terrorism, though none of the raids has led to terrorism-related charges. The request came at the beginning of Ramadan, a period during which Muslims' faith requires they give to the needy.
