Apr. 27, 2005 – A report released yesterday by the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs shows a continued increase in attacks on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and organizations. The study, which compared annual data from anti-violence organizations in several cities, found a 4 percent rise in violence and harassment in 2004.
Authors of the study saw the increase as a continuation of the 26 percent spike in violence against the LGBT community reported in 2003 and blamed conservative and religious right movements for contributing to an increasingly hostile environment for people expressing nontraditional gender and sexual orientations.
