Indiana Executes Would-be Liver Donor

May 26, 2005 – Agents of the state of Indiana executed Gregory Scott Johnson, a Death Row inmate who had asked to be kept alive long enough to donate his liver to his ailing sister. The execution by lethal injection came after Governor Mitch Daniels refused to grant clemency or further delay Johnson's death, saying he found no reason to dismiss court rulings, recommendations by the parole board and medical experts who recommended the sister accept a new organ through the conventional organ donation process.
