SBC workers continue to fight for health care, job security

May 24, 2004 – On the third day of a four-day walk out, workers at SBC Communications, represented by the Communications Workers of America, say they have made some progress on contract negotiations. However, disagreements still exist, including the amount the CWA workers will pay towards their health insurance and whether union workers will replace contract employees to fill jobs in the company’s growth areas. SBC has agreed to give laid-off workers a guaranteed job offer in their state, but the union is asking that workers be given priority for positions in their hometowns.
