The NewStandard ceased publishing on April 27, 2007.
Five days a week, we bring you fresh, original hard-news stories on a huge range of topics, reporting from the perspective of the people most affected by the issues – people like you. And it’s people like you who make our work possible, too. We have hundreds of members who sustain our publication by making modest donations each month.
We believe that since our initial launch in January 2004, we have truly made the most of our modest financial base. And we stand by each and every one of the nearly 3,000 original articles we have produced as a testament to our commitment to quality journalism.
This year, we added new staff and lots of new features (see below) in hopes that by our third birthday, we could significantly increase our membership base in order to sustain that growth into 2007.
We have taken all steps within our means to ensure the success and sustainability of our unique organization. Now we need you to do the rest. Help us keep growing!
TNS is visited every week by tens of thousands of readers, and our articles have appeared on more than 1,000 websites – making standard appearances at excellent projects such as ZNet, Truthout.org, AlterNet and Antiwar.com as well as in countless local print publications. For our first two years of operation, we earned three awards from the media-democracy organization Project Censored, recognizing our reporting among the country’s best and most under-covered journalism!
And we’re getting better. In the last year, we have doubled our full-time staff, added new features like our exclusive Radio News Update, biting daily cartoons and unique news digests. We’ve completely redesigned our site to be more user-friendly. All the while, we never strayed from our core mission of bringing you original, in-depth reporting on issues regularly ignored by our corporate counterparts.
To keep us publishing, we need people like you to donate whatever you can afford on a monthly basis.
Our operation is extremely frugal (so far, only 3% of our revenues have gone to organizational overhead, the remaining 97% paying for content production).
With a little help from our readers, we know we can achieve our modest goals. Ultimately, we aim to surpass them so we can expand our coverage, add more staff and continue to develop The NewStandard and PeoplesNetWorks as a community of people who believe in authentic, fair and intelligent reporting. Looking back at how far we’ve come since 2004, we are confident – and hope you agree – that our organization is stronger than ever. And we will continue to grow, but only with your help!
