U.S. News Few California community college students finish school

A 6-year study of over half-a-million California community college students has found that fewer than 1/4 seeking a degree succeeded or transferred to university. Researchers point to policies that fund the system's 110 colleges based on enrollment instead of the completion rate of its 2.5 million attendees. The findings back up a November Cal State Sacramento study that found black and Latino community-college students with the lowest completion rates in the state – 15% and 18%, respectively, as compared to 27% for whites and 33% for Asians.
