U.S. News Study finds urbanization warming Cali. even more than gases

A new study has shown average California temperatures rose nearly 2 degrees F from 1950–2000, led by big cities and caused even more by urbanization than greenhouse gases. A NASA scientist and CSU geographers said 54% of 330 weather stations surveyed showed significant rises, with normally low nighttime temperatures increasing more than daytime maximums because increasingly urbanized areas cool more poorly than land in its natural state. They warned of continued heating due to the fast growth of what is already the nation's most-populous state.
