U.S. News Over 100 Haitian migrants reach Fla., 1 dies on 3-week trip

More than 100 Haitian migrants landed north of downtown Miami on Wednesday after at least 3 weeks at sea in a dilapidated sailboat, officials said. At least 11 people hospitalized and one man had died in the 700-mile crossing; 3 are in critical condition from dehydration. Nearly a dozen kids, including a 10-year-old boy, were among the gaunt and exhausted survivors taken into custody by local and state officials. Unlike Cubans, most Haitians who make it to the US are sent back, but a congressmember is urging exception for these migrants.
