World News Military to probe platoon’s ‘killing spree’ in Afghanistan

The US military has announced a criminal investigation into whether an elite Marine platoon used excessive force after a suicide bomb attack on their convoy in eastern Afghanistan last month. Afghan witnesses said the Special Operations troops fired recklessly at passing vehicles and pedestrians along the crowded highway, which was flanked by markets. The US military initially said 16 civilians were killed but changed the estimate to 8, with 35 others wounded. Local hospital officials said 14 people died. The platoon has since left Afghanistan.

Remarks: Somehow disappeared from the recountings I could find of this incident is any mention of the marines threatening journalists and deleting their photos immediately afterward. –GV
